Jazz is becoming one of the most popular dance forms mainly due to its popularity on television shows, movies, music videos and commercials. The dancers are energetic as well as having fun.
It it the ideal place to showcase a dancer's individual style and originality. Dancers can interpret steps and moves with their own particular style, but a good strong background in ballet is always recommended for this form of dance.
Gus Giordano (1923 – March 9 2008 ) was born in St Louis and was a renownded jazz dancer who studied originally with Minette Buchman. He was a performer on and off Broadway, in television, film and stage, and he is a master teacher, a gifted choreographer, founder of his company, creator of the Jazz Dance World Congress and the author of Anthology of American Jazz Dance, the first book on jazz dance. He has taught world-renowned dancers in schools such as the American Ballet Theater and he choreographed award winning numbers for television, film, stage, commercials and industrials. Giordano is considered one of the founders of jazz dance, and his influence in jazz dance is still felt.
